Young Indians (Yi), an integral part of Confederation of Indian Industry, is a movement for Indian youth to come together to lead, co-create and influence India’s future. Over the last 19 years, Yi has become a dynamic community of over 3,300 young leaders across 54 city chapters. Entrepreneurs, business owners, professionals and influencers under the age of 45 are part of this group.
Yi’s ecosystem includes MYTRI – Membership or primary members, YUVA or college students, Thalir or school communities and rural communities. Its activities and initiatives are centred on three foundational pillars– Youth Leadership, Nation Building and Thought Leadership.
Youth leadership sits at the heart of Yi. It works with young leaders from all walks of life to empower and educate them while bringing in valuable leadership experiences and learning opportunities for them.
Yi is a platform for stakeholder engagement led by youth across three key dimensions – awareness, action and advocacy. This engagement is taken ahead through Yi’s various projects including Masoom, Road Safety, Gift an Organ, Accessibility, Climate Change, Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
Project Masoom aims at building public awareness on the social evil of child sexual abuse, building safer communities and securing the future of India’s children. Partners network include Childline India Foundation, WeProtect Global Alliance, UNICEF India and Arpan.
Yi’s Gift an Organ (GAO) project creates understanding and awareness around organ donation. Over 4,000 online pledges have been facilitated through Yi with National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO).
Another important social cause of Yi is the Road Safety project which educates society on the importance of abiding with traffic rules to protect lives of others on the roads.
To engage youth in building a sustainable and compassionate society, Yi has is working on water conservation, waste management, air pollution, rural enterprises and inclusivity.
Yi has 29,500 YUVA members from across 130 colleges, who engage as volunteers in its programs and initiatives. This helps them gain experience and learn about leadership. YUVA members also gain from Yi connect in building skills in entrepreneurship, HR, sales, logistics, and advanced excel.
Through the Covid-19 pandemic, Yi actively undertook relief work in all its 54 chapters. As many as 7.5 lakh beneficiaries were helped through distribution of masks, gloves, sanitisers, foot operated hand wash / sanitser dispensers, Covid testing booths, ration packets and cooked food packets.
For its primary members, Yi offers learning and development through Yi Special Interest Groups across diverse topics such as Food, Golf, Angel Investors, Book Club, Runners Club. These SIGs bring together enthusiastic Yi members sharing a common interest to bond over experiences.
Yi’s experiential learning programmes take members to leading academic and business organisations globally and engages them in focused sessions and workshops with thought leaders, youth leaders and international experts covering a wide spectrum of topics.
Yi is a founding alliance member of the G20 Young Entrepreneurs’ Alliance (YEA) and Commonwealth Alliance of Young Entrepreneurs – Asia Pacific. These international platforms provide both a business networking platform for young entrepreneurs and the window to develop a better understanding of the global socio-economic and political scenario. As the voice of the youth, Yi works to build and reinforce responsible leadership, positivity, engagement, compassion and connectedness amongst its stakeholders.
